Widening Circles

from HERE - The Journey (free) by André Lefebvre

A poem by Rainer Maria Rilke, with narration. The first time I read this poem I was struck by how it resonated with my dealing with aging, and the ongoing doubts about my life having any meaning.

It suggested to me that life is indeed larger than my own existence, beyond my grasp, that there is a still point anchoring the universe, and that although questions remain unanswered, my journey reaching for the divine is what that matters, and will never end.

I found and dressed a piece of music from my numerous music sketches, and brought them together, adding arrangements. I then took a risk - adding a narration of the poem. My voice seemed to spontaneous attach itself to an intonation lilt and that felt complete.

by Rainer Maria Rilke

I live my life in widening circles
that reach out across the world.
I may not complete this last one
but I give myself to it.

I circle around God, around the primordial tower.
I’ve been circling for thousands of years
and I still don’t know: am I a falcon,
a storm, or a great song?
